Julius Caesar Scenic Build
This project is a modern take of Julius Caesar by William Shakespeare, setting the setting as a war between two gangs in New York City in the 70s. The physical setting was designed to be in a subway station.
The biggest challenge of this project was handling last minute changes. The initial design called for a revolving platform to be part of the set. As a Master Carpenter, my job relating to that platform is to build a large rectangular platform (13ft x 14ft) around the revolving mechanism. However, the revolving mechanism was delivered quite behind schedule, and the weight limit for the mechanism to function was 500lb, which is too low to be used, considering a wooden plate and several actors will be on top of the mechanism. Hence, the revolving mechanism was removed from the design quite close to the opening date. This last minute change led to a higher need for lumber to fill in the circular hole in the middle of the built rectangular platform.
Total budget spent: $1,571.41
