Automatic Sprinkler System Design for a Grocery Store
A theoretical automatic sprinkler system for Tasty Food Mart, Boston, MA
The proposed sprinkler system design was designed to provide adequate protection throughout the building such that it would minimize the effects of fire scenarios were they to develop inside the Tasty Food Mart. The system's main objectives are to control fire spread, increase occupants' life safety by controlling the fire at the minimum, prolong tenable conditions in the space such that occupants have ample time for egress, and protect the property.
The system was designed based on the most recent NFPA codes and standards, the Massachusetts State Building Code, and hydraulic calculations to determine the sprinkler system that best suits the building's needs and the stakeholders. Each area was addressed individually and then combined with the overall system in order to ensure proper consideration was taken in all spaces of the building.
This group project was part of the FP553 course at Worcester Polytechnic Institute.
